About a year ago, we were introduced to husband and wife team, Sebastian and Noelia, owners of the artisanal ceramic workshop, Mango Rojo, that has for years been making pieces for restaurants, hotels, other commercial projects, and families throughout Paraguay.

Over dinner one evening, at their home that through short garden pathways leads to their studio—the whole setting so pastoral, artistic and calming as to appear make-believe—, we bonded over shared interests in many things, and in the communion of good conversation, determined that we would work together. At Under The Bough, we had for some time sought to add ceramics as our next line, as the ceramic tradition in Paraguay is a long and deep one, and Mango Rojo, they sought to expand through export, but even more so to grow in the kinds of designs they could make.

We sat down together over a number of weeks, sketched designs, molded and fired new ideas; however, from the beginning, we knew serveware and kitchen accessories would be our starting place.

We felt gorgeous, heirloom-quality, full-of-character, stoneware serving essentials were in short supply in home decor markets. We wanted to create pieces that were cared for and utilitarian, treasured because of the beauty they add to the table, when family and friends have gathered, pieces that could be passed down through generations. 

Each piece is designed, individually decorated and glazed by hand in our studio in Aregua.
